Arun Kumar Majumdar: A Collage Artist with a difference

Arun Kumar Majumdar is one of those rarest of artists who can create art out of throw-away materials, recycling them not into utilities, but into beauty.

He has been researching a special aspect of painting for 45 years. Apart from pencil sketches, water, paint, oil paint, he has brought another dimension to the picture, mainly in collage work. One of the new ideas of metal collage work in particular can be seen in his work. Dr. Majumdar does not believe any word in the world to be rubbish. He picks up unwanted things from the rubbish heap and makes works of art. In his words, your garbage is my inspiration. In his pictures, the daily life of the houses, roads and ghats are observed. Nothing in the imaginary world can be seen in his pictures. The use of pieces of iron, discarded items, torn cloth all come to life. In the language of the artist, the picture is the real life.

Majumdar was born in 1955 in Howrah district of West Bengal. Painting AMA from Rabindranath Tagore University in 1969 and MA in 1974. Poi HD. Former Senior Art Teacher at St. Thomas Church School, Howrah from 1984 to 2015. Former Professor, Rabindranath Tagore University, Calcutta.
